Why
Diets Don't Work - Millions of overweight people spend billions
of dollars, but America keeps getting fatter.
By Dr. Joel Robbins, M.D.
In more than 23 years
as a doctor, I've encountered many weight loss products and programs.
The problem I find is that most of these diets focus on the symptoms
of weight gain, not the cause, and that is why they don't work.
Addressing the symptoms
yields little or no result, and any lost weight usually comes
back (some call it the 'yoyo" effect). The problem is getting
worse, as Americans spent a staggering $33 billion on weight loss
products last year. Unfortunately, the number of overweight Americans
increased from about 50% (in 1997) to 61% (in 2001), according
to the Surgeon General.
Most weight loss programs fail because they don't ask the most
important question: What is causing the weight gain? Without asking
this question, how can there be a solution to the problem?
After reviewing more than 100 medical studies and validating it
in my own practice, I reached this conclusion: poor digestion
caused by surplus putrefied (decayed) waste in the body is the
common cause of weight gain. Toxic waste buildup in the body causes
poor digestion and poor absorption of nutrients. If the body can't
get what it needs to function properly, the symptoms start to
show.
Overeating
Excessive waste in the colon causes people to gain weight. This
happens because the backed-up waste makes absorbing necessary
nutrients from foods difficult for the small intestine, which
leads to overeating.
When the large intestine is not functioning properly, waste backs
up into the small intestine, which creates a mucoid layer inside
the small intestine. The mucoid layer restricts absorption of
essential nutrients, leaving the body unsatisfied. The body craves
more food because it can't absorb what it needs, which leads to
overeating, and
consequently, to weight gain.
Slowed Metabolism
Metabolism
is the process the body uses to transform food into energy and
it directly affects weight gain. One major factor that contributes
to a slow metabolism is too much putrefied waste backed up in
the system. If the body cannot burn its fuel efficiently, it stores
it as fat.
The body must be able to absorb nutrients efficiently in order
to maintain a certain metabolic rate, as well as a normal weight.
As Dr. Jack Larmer explains, "Once the colon is clean, the
metabolism is more likely to work as it should, and when that
happens, a major obstacle to weight loss is eliminated."
Nutritionist Lindsey Duncan agrees. "Over 90% of the people
I see are metabolizing less than 55% of what they are eating,"
she states.
Regularity is Key
The number
of times you eliminate should equal the number of meals you eat
each day. Dr. Bernard Jensen, a well respected digestive system
specialist states, "if you eat two to three meals each day,
you should eliminate (have a bowel movement) two to three times
per day." Duncan states, "I often startle my clients
with the questions, 'If we eat three meals daily but only eliminate
once a day or once every other day, where do you think all the
rest of that food is hiding?"
More Potential Symptoms
Like a backed up sink or toilet in your home, excess waste collects
and putrefies in the colon. When this backup occurs, it affects
the entire system and toxins begin to recirculate throughout the
body.
This can result in low metabolism, low energy, water retention,
cellulite, overeating, as well as weight gain. Other symptoms
include lower energy levels, headaches, food cravings, insomnia,
anxiety, joint pain, back pain, allergies, memory lapses, acne,
high blood pressure, cholesterol problems, thyroid problems, and
even more severe PMS symptoms. Heartburn, acid reflux, and indigestion
are also common symptoms of a toxic colon. Proper digestion is
essential to overall health and imperative to successful weight
loss. In 26 years of practice in Los Angeles, Dr. Carol Port found
that many of the common health problems related to an unhealthy
colon cause people to gain weight.
"Detoxification and weight loss go hand-in-hand," she
says, "because it addresses the cause, not the symptom."
Toxins Cause Weight
Gain
Imagine not taking your garbage out on a regular basis and letting
it pile up in your house. Now imagine having to add another room
to your house to accommodate the growing pile of waste. This is
essentially what happens inside your body if your digestive tract
is
malfunctioning.
Once overloaded, waste can expand the colon as much as five times
its normal size. People can have anywhere from seven to 75 pounds
of waste in their large intestine at any time. Dr. Richard Anderson
of Mt. Shasta, California explains: "When the colon is impacted
with (putrefied waste), the lymphatic system gets blocked and
backup develops- this is one of the main reasons for obesity."
"Overweight" in this sense, really means "over-waste,"
or too much waste accumulated in the body. Sadly, about 85% of
the people in the United States have a poor functioning digestive
tract, and that is where the breakdown in health really begins.
What is the Answer?
Proper cleansing is the real solution. If the digestive tract
(including the colon) cannot function efficiently, absorb the
necessary nutrients, and eliminate the waste effectively, weight
gain and the other problems can occur.
Through more than 23 years of practice, I determined that proper
cleansing addresses the source of the problem, as several of my
patients have experienced. Even President Bush (who had a
colonoscopy on June 29, 2002) and other prominent people are stressing
the importance of taking care of your colon. This has helped make
colon health a less frightening topic for people to address.
Unfortunately, in terms of colon cleansing, many of the means
used to "cleanse" are ineffective and could potentially
make problems worse.
A Proven Solution
It is a known fact that North American herbal knowledge consists
of about 300 herbs. In comparison, herbal knowledge in the Mediterranean
is of more than 10,000 herbs. It is this extensive Mediterranean
knowledge that pinpointed the herbs necessary for
proper, healthy cleansing.
I recently came across a Mediterranean product called Experience
ä that addresses the cause of the problem and gets results.
Master herbalists from a 1200-year Mediterranean lineage developed
this natural, gentle cleansing formula more than a
century ago. Recently brought to North America, Experience underwent
clinical tests by one of the top research firms in North America
(The Chicago Clinical Center of Research). In witnessing my patients'
success, I can recommend the product with confidence. This 100%
natural blend of unique food herbs is also one of the few natural,
distinctive formulas featured in the most recent Physicians' Desk
Reference for Nonprescription Drugs and Dietary Supplements (PDR).
The PDR has been used by Medical doctors and Pharmacists for the
past 55 years.
Results
One male
patient came to me concerned about his unusual weight gain and
frequent headaches. He had always been thin, and while his arms
and legs were still thin, his belly kept getting larger. Once
I determined that he was not eliminating correctly, I recommended
that he try Experience, which helped him eliminate his headaches
and dramatically reduce his oversized belly.
Similarly, another patient experienced weight gain and noticeable
cellulite in the legs and stomach area as well as pain in her
lower back and joints. She, too, was not eliminating properly,
but she started using Experience and found success alleviating
her symptoms. In both cases, poor digestion and an abundance of
waste in the large intestine caused the problems.
Numerous patients have
experienced relief from symptoms that include high blood pressure,
allergies, cholesterol problems, joint pain, acne, thyroid problems,
low energy, and memory problems, as well as weight gain. I also
recommend eating more raw; organic foods and less processed foods
and junk foods-and don't forget to
exercise regularly!
The Source, The
Answer
Don't
waste your money on useless fad diets. Stop masking the symptoms
and deal with the problem at its source. After more than 23 years
of clinical practice, Experience is the only product I recommend
that helps deal with the problem. Understand that your health
is a gift. Disease is something that you earn.
